Over the last month, I have attended a number of meetings, seminars and conferences on a number of topics. In some I have just listened (not often), some times I have been talking, and with others, I have made comments or asked questions. What has come out of these is a genuine sense of optimism, even if its muted. There are new businesses being started with some great ideas and potential for global expansion in the medium term. Others might not have the same level of aspiration but, with support, will build a good, solid business.
It is easy to look at the negative aspects of business life; the fluctuating pound against a basket of other currencies, the loss of UK’s AAA rating, the forecast of low growth in the UK, Europe and Asia, but there are pockets of growth in every area of the globe. Businesses must, and are, looking at the opportunities that are out there. Listening to a potential or existing customer’s needs, providing solutions to problems and getting paid for providing that solution, on a regular basis, goes a long way towards building those businesses.
I look forward to next month to see who is building what kind of business, and where their aspirations might take them.
