Traffic Jams

20140617_072938A massive change takes place in many parts of the world, usually at the end of August and in the month  of September. Schools, colleges and universities all re-open and thousands of workers go back to work after their summer holidays. They commute by car, bus, tram, tube, train, boat, cycles, motorcycles, some by ‘plane and some actually walk.

Apart from every single method of transport being very busy for about 3 to 4 hours in the morning and probably even longer in the evening, it doesn’t help productivity and the well-being of all those travelling.

Technology now allows work to be carried out anywhere, anytime, so why do we insist on asking people to commute every day. Why don’t we give people the tools to do their job, the support that they might need and trust them. There are various debates about how to do it and the right balance of support and ‘community’ but surely flexibility is a competitive advantage, not only to obtain and keep customers but also talent.
